Earth Defenders on Burnaby Mountain, and Delores Broten from the Watershed Sentinel

Arrests began today on #BurnabyMountain, despite hundreds of people standing in opposition to the court’s decision to grant Kinder Morgan Corporation an injunction.  KM wants to twin an already existing pipeline that transports tar sands bitumen from Alberta for export to Asian markets.  Earth Defenders say no, this is parkland, we say NO to pipelines, go away.  In the first segment we rebroadcast speeches from two indigenous men who spoke on the mountain earlier this week.  In the second half – Delores Broten and friends founded the Watershed Sentinel way back in 1990 in response to MacMillan Bloedel’s insistence on clearcut logging Cortes Island.  Twenty-four years later the environmental challenges remain but, thanks to independent media like the Watershed Sentinel, increasing numbers of people are awake, aware, and willing to work for the earth.
