Winds of Change – Sept 29 2011 – Jen Fisher Bradley and Ellen Davidson

Jen Fisher Bradley is so concerned about environmental conditions and the quality of life in Port Alberni that she’s running for Mayor.  Port Alberni is an inland city on Vancouver Island, unique with its access to the pacific ocean.  It was once a beautiful wilderness, inhabited by the Nuu-chah-nulth people, with clean air, plentiful food, running water, and magnificent mountain vistas.  For the past two hundred years it has been a victim of the industrial revolution, currently experiencing the bust end of the boom and bust cycle that accompanies corporate controlled resource extraction.  Jen believes it’s past time to forge a new way forward, a way that sustains the earth and local communities.  In the second half Ellen Davidson, a NYC based activist, talks about her experiences with the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions.  Since 1967 Israel has demolished more than 25,000 Palestinian homes, and Ellen was one of many on international missions to rebuild some of those houses.  Now home in NYC, Ellen is helping organize the October 6th day of occupation in Washington DC, and is involved with the Indypendent newspaper.
